Greenwood Government

Our Greenwood Government is a body of pupils representing every class from Year 1 to Year 6, who act as a pupil voice to school staff. They listen to the views of their peers, provide feedback at meetings and suggest ideas for moving Greenwood forwards to be the best it can possibly be.

This reflects Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) – every child has the right to express their views on matters that affect them and to have those views listened to and taken seriously. Through the Greenwood Government, pupils have meaningful opportunities to share their opinions and contribute to decisions about school life.

The Greenwood Government also supports the Democracy element of our Fundamental British Values. Pupils learn that their voices matter, that everyone has the right to be heard and that positive change can be achieved by listening to and respecting the views of others.

Furthermore, the Greenwood Government meets regularly to discuss ideas and create new opportunities for our school. Members also report to governors about their activities and the views of pupils across Greenwood. This helps our children understand that they can play an active role in improving their school and their community.

The work of the Greenwood Government also links to Article 29, which recognises that education should help children develop their talents and abilities and prepare them to live responsibly and respectfully within their communities.

Greenwood Government members are entrusted with promoting our school vision and values and being positive role models for others. They can be easily identified around school by their Greenwood Government badges!
