Rights Respecting School

Our journey to becoming a Rights Respecting School

We are proud to be on an exciting journey towards becoming a UNICEF Rights Respecting School. This approach places the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) at the heart of everything we do, helping us to create a school where every child feels safe, valued and respected. We believe that when children understand their rights, they are empowered to use their voices, make informed choices and play an active role in shaping both their school and wider community.

Becoming a Rights Respecting School is more than just achieving an award — it’s about embedding a culture of respect throughout the entire school. It means ensuring that every child knows they have the right to learn, to be heard and to feel included, regardless of their background, beliefs or abilities. As a school community, we are working together to create an environment where diversity is celebrated and everyone feels a strong sense of belonging.

This journey also supports our wider commitment to promoting personal development, wellbeing, and equality. By linking children’s rights to everyday life, we encourage pupils to think about fairness, justice and responsibility, both locally and globally. Our aim is to nurture young people who not only understand their rights but also respect the rights of others, helping them grow into kind, compassionate and responsible citizens.

Over the coming months, we will be involving pupils, staff, parents and the wider community in this process. There will be opportunities to share ideas, celebrate successes and learn together as we continue to develop our Rights Respecting culture. We are excited about the positive impact this will have on our children’s confidence, resilience and aspirations.
