Safeguarding

Safeguarding and Child Protection is everyone’s responsibility

Greenwood Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and wellbeing of all children and members of our school community. Greenwood Primary School is dedicated to ensuring that stringent, effective and clear safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children, volunteers, visitors and staff at school.

Greenwood Primary School have established and maintain an ethos and culture where children feel secure, are encouraged to talk, and are listened and responded to when they have a worry or concern. Children know that there are adults in the school whom they can approach if they are worried.

There is an ethos and culture where school staff and volunteers feel safe, are encouraged to talk and are listened and responded to when they have concerns about the safety and well-being of a child.

As a school we also recognise the need for children to be taught and understand how to keep themselves mentally safe and physically safe and healthy.  We are very proud of our curriculum. For further information about this, please click here

Should any person have a concern regarding safeguarding, please inform one of the school safeguarding team detailed below. Contact can be made in person, via telephone (020 8422 9630) or email (admin@greenwood.ealing.sch.uk).

Most children enjoy generally happy childhood experiences within their own family. Unfortunately for some, this is not always the case, especially during difficult family times. As a school, we have a duty to ensure that arrangements are in place for safeguarding.

Safeguarding means ensuring the safety and welfare of all children and, in addition to child protection, covers aspects of school life such as attendance, behaviour, first aid, health and safety, the curriculum and equality, to name but a few.

Child protection means protecting children from physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse or neglect. It also means helping children to grow up into confident, healthy and happy adults.

Posters with photos of our DSL and Deputy DSLs are displayed in our staff room, in our main reception area and around school.

If you have concerns about the welfare or safety of a child or young person; contact London Borough of Ealing's Ealing Children's Integrated Response Service (ECIRS) services immediately. If you feel urgent action is needed contact the police on 999.

Operation Encompass

Greenwood is part of Operation Encompass which is a national scheme that operates jointly between schools and police forces.

Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has experienced domestic abuse.

As a school we have ensured that a member of our staff, our Designated Safeguarding Lead, known as a Key Adult, has been trained in the Operation Encompass procedures allowing us to then use the information that has been shared, in confidence, to support the child/ren in our care.

The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 identifies children who experience domestic abuse as victims of domestic abuse in their own right. This places a statutory obligation on police forces to share Operation Encompass notifications with schools/educational settings. We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and through Operation Encompass we will be able to provide the best possible support to our children.
