As we reached the end of the first term, we are delighted to reflect on the excellent progress the children have made in their learning. Their enthusiasm, positive attitudes and commitment have been evident across the curriculum, and we are incredibly proud of all they have achieved. It has been a very positive start to the year, and we look forward to continuing to support and develop their learning in the New Year.
Year 5
During the second half term, Year 5 focused on learning about the Highwayman by Alfred Noyes in English, looking at figurative language, such as alliteration, onomatopoeia and personification, description and retelling the story as a narrative. In Science, our budding experimenters tackled the forces that shape our world. They tested parachutes to discover the wonders of air resistance—some with impressive success and others with hilarious crash landings! They also rolled toy cars across different surfaces to investigate friction, making predictions and observing results like true scientists. History lessons took a local twist as Year 5 uncovered the stories behind RAF Northolt and learned about Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the engineering genius who revolutionized British transport. Who knew that local history could be so inspiring (or so full of fascinating facts)? In DT, the children have really enjoyed designing and making their moving toys using a cam mechanism.

Autumn 1
We have had a busy but very successful half term as the children have settled into their new classes. They have eagerly engaged in a wide range of learning experiences, consistently displaying high energy and a positive attitude throughout.
Year 5: Showcasing our Amazing Natural Disasters Projects!
We are incredibly excited to share the fantastic work that Year 5 has been doing this term in their cross-curricular project on Extreme Earth and Natural Disasters. From World maps to safety measures, the creativity and hard work the children have shown is something to be proud of!
Each child chose an extreme weather event – from tornadoes to hurricanes and tsunamis – to research. They wrote comprehensive reports covering the causes of these disasters, including wind, patterns, tectonic activity and ocean temperatures. Using household materials, many children constructed incredible volcanoes and earthquake models. Thank you for all your support at home in helping the children complete their projects. It’s clear they have a deep understanding of the natural world and are eager to continue exploring its wonders!
Year 6: Learning about World War Two
The children have thoroughly enjoyed our topic on World War II which has been seamlessly integrated into their English, reading, and history lessons, and their enthusiasm has been remarkable. I've even heard cheers of excitement when they found out they were diving into a history lesson or reading the next chapter of ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’. We are excited to further explore this topic with our upcoming trip to the Battle of Britain Bunker.
Autumn 2
Year 5 embarked on an exciting literary journey with The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. They explored the poem's rich figurative language, diving into alliteration, onomatopoeia, and personification. The children also embraced their inner storytellers, transforming the classic tale into their own narratives with vivid descriptions that would make even the highwayman proud!
In Design and Technology, creativity was in full swing as the children designed and built moving toys using cam mechanisms. The classroom buzzed with excitement – and the occasional mechanical mishap – as they tested their creations. While not every toy moved quite as planned, the children showed resilience, reflecting on their designs and brainstorming ways to improve. After all, even the best inventors started somewhere!
Our Trip to the Battle of Britain Bunker
Our visit to the Battle of Britain Bunker was both educational and inspiring, offering us a glimpse into a pivotal moment in history.
This trip to the Battle of Britain Bunker was not just a journey into the past—it was a reminder of how ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things when they come together for a common cause. It was an experience we won’t soon forget!

Forensic Science Workshop
This term, our Year 4 and 5 pupils took part in an exciting Forensic Science workshop as part of our Science Week celebrations. The session gave children the chance to step into the shoes of real-life forensic scientists, using observation, deduction, and scientific techniques to solve a mystery.
